Google Print search page

April 30, 2005

Today, Google has introduced a Google Print book-specific search page for users in Australia. This new search page – located at print.google.com.au – will provide Australian searchers with a new way to use Google to search exclusively for books. No web or newsgroup results are returned, just books and nothing but books

The Google Print Australia page will not only enable users to find information from the ever-expanding collection of titles in Google Print, it will also help them purchase books they find, through a selection of links to online book retailers.

For example, if a user is interested in learning more about Australian dog breeds, they can simply type in a phrase, such as "australian dogs" into the Google Print Australia home page and view a list of books that include mentions of Australian dogs such as the Australian Shepherd and the Australian Cattle Dog. When a user clicks on a book link they will see the most relevant page from the book, where they could also search for other keywords or phrases within that book. If a user decides they wish to purchase the book, they simply click on one of the "Buy this Book" links and are directed to online bookstores that carry the book. In addition to the Google Print Australia search page, Google also shows users relevant book search results at the top of the normal search results on Google.com.au.

The books found in Google Print come from ongoing digitization efforts through both the Publisher Program (where Google is working with publishers to make their books discoverable) and the Library Project (where Google is working with five library partners to help users discover harder to find works). We are currently scanning public domain works of our library partners. Starting November 1st, we will expand our scanning to include the full collections of these libraries. This announcement is part of Google’s continuing efforts to make it easy for users to search for, discover and buy books.
